I don't think it's the National Library - that was constructed in the 1960s. I think it's the John Gorton building.

It is the National Library not the John Gorton building. It was situated on the block of land that now has the Edmund Barton Building. It was demolished in the late 1960s or early 1970s. I have uploaded a photo of the part demolished building that should eventually be linked to this image.

This is the original National Library built in Kings Avenue. It was the entrance area to a proposed much larger building. It was on the left hand side of the road when standing with back to the Molonglo River. The Patent's Office was also on this road. I spend many great afternoons in the National Library after school in the stacks - reading - we were allowed to go there. Ann Gugler

National Library was demolished in 1968. Going by uncle reports who also build Australian War Memorial, National Library of Australia and many more.

Black and white picture of the demolition of this library building taken by me in the late 1960s or possibly very early in the 1970s
